"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times." So begins Charles Dickens' classic novel, "A Tale of Two Cities." The year was 1755, yet Dickens' words seem appropriate to our world today, and indeed, to many periods in history.
In the last decade, advances in technology have brought about major transformations to such a degree that all areas of our lives have been affected. The global economic crisis has also had major impacts on each of us as individuals and members of the larger community. More and more, technology is being utilized to improve the effectiveness of organizations struggling to survive and compete as the individual worker experiences shifts in where, when and how he or she works. We discover that there is less and less of the world around us that we can control. At the same time, we realize that our greater power lies in our avility to accept the new reality, heigten our sensitivity to our environment and respond positively to change.
