Keynote Speaker: GUILLERMO M. LUZGuillermo M. Luz is Executive Vice President of Ayala Foundation, a foundation which manages projects in education, arts and culture, environment, social development, and entrepreneurship.
He was Executive Director of the Makati Business Club from 1987 to 2006, after joining its staff in 1983. While at MBC, he concurrently served as executive director of Philippines-United States Business Council, Philippine-British Business Council, Philippines-France Business Council, Philippines-Singapore Business Council, and Philippines-Malaysia Business Council.
As MBC executive director, Mr. Luz participated in the government’s E-Commerce Council and was a member of the NEDA Medium Term Development Plan committee. He has served as the private sector representative on the Legislative-Executive Development Advisory Council and the Secretary of Agriculture’s Technical Working Group.
He was also Managing Director of the Knowledge Institute (an affiliate of SGV & Co.) from 1999 to 2005. He is currently a member of the Philippine Coffee Board as well as a member of the National Advisory Council of WWF-Philippines
Mr. Luz was the Secretary-General of NAMFREL from 1992 to 2006, overseeing preparations for its Operation Quick Count and pollwatching in the 1992, 1995, 1998, 2001, and 2004 elections.
Mr. Luz graduated from Ateneo de Manila University with a bachelor’s degree in social sciences (sociology and political science). He was selected as one of the Ten Outstanding Young Men (TOYM) and an Aquino Fellow for Public Service in 1999. He was conferred the Chino Roces Freedom Award in 2002.

Every successful tech start-up is based on a strong underlying idea, and that idea may have been born out of a technology looking for an application, an innovation or improvement applied to an existing product, a new product conceived or an expressed need of a particular user group. There are many ways to develop a good idea, but a good idea by itself is not sufficient to ensure the success of the start-up. A good team and detailed planning process are essential to draw up the key elements of the business (such as product design, target market, value creation, business model, etc.), document these in the business plan and convince partners/investors/lenders that the idea is too good to ignore, the financial promise is too good to turn down, the action plan is focused and credible, and the team is good enough to rely on.

He also founded several successful start-ups including Trends & Technologies Inc., NetX Solutions Inc., WolfPac Communications Inc. (acquired by SMART Communications) and Data Networks & Defense (acquired by Trends & Technologies, Holdings) He has a degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering from the University of the East and has attended numerous trainings and conventions pertaining to eCommerce, Information Security and LAN/WAN Internetworking . BACALLANFor the last 20 years, Allen has focused his career in information technology and systems management in business organizations engaged in healthcare, consumer packaged goods, chemical fertilizers manufacturing, integrated food manufacturing and packaged water products. As Chief Information Officer at Makati Medical Center (MMC), Allen is a member of the senior management team that has been successful at turning around the 39-year old institution towards an uptrend in profitability and growth. These are being realized via a combination of programs involving business process changes thru stringent cost controls, aggressive marketing efforts, and professionalizing the organization; the construction of a new annex building, renovation of the current building, hospital facilities upgrading; the improvement of patient care systems to the level of the internationally-recognized JCI standards; and the overhaul of the hospital’s IT and ERP systems. Allen is at the helm of the project team that oversees the IT systems upgrade across the entire Hospital. Makati Medical Center’s IT system is one of the few hospital installations Philippine-wide and ASEAN-regionwide, that has a working interface of the Laboratory Information System, various Picture Archiving and Communication Systems, Pharmacy Information System, Retail Management System for Pharmacy, and Pneumatic Tube Transport Systems, to the Hospital Information System backbone. It will soon launch Project MoNA – the “Mobile Nursing Assistant – the wireless PDA-based system that is expected to improve bedside care for patients.

S. Rohit joined Oracle as Senior Business Development Manager, Security & Identity Management Solutions for the ASEAN region from Ernst & Young. Based in Singapore, Mr. Rohit is tasked with driving revenues, increasing market penetration and building new business opportunities for Oracle’s security and identity management solutions. Prior to working with Oracle, he has worked extensively with Ernst & Young as a Technology, Security and Risk Consultant.
