ICDL Certification launched for the first time in the Philipines
The International Computer Driving Licence (ICDL), the world’s leading end user computer skills certification program was launched in the Philippines for the first time. This was announced by the Philippine Computer Society Foundation (PCSF), the certification arm of the Philippine Computer Society, the country’s oldest and most prestigious organization of Information Technology (IT) professionals.

The ICDL certification is the internationally recognized qualification that certifies practical competence with computer skills. It confers individuals with certified evidence of IT literacy and authenticates their up-to-date qualifications in the field.

Research studies have shown that ICDL certified individuals help employers reduce IT support costs as well as display a desirable level of IT productivity. This is increasingly important with the growing prevalence of PC computing in all areas of work.

The ICDL’s launch with the assistance of the PCSF in the Philippines, is timely as the event coincides with the CertifyIT! Certification Conference and Exhibition at the Hotel Intercontinental Manila.

PCSF President Bing van Tooren said that “the launch of the ICDL will ensure better efficiency on the job as more and more employers recognize that an IT competent workforce is key to corporate growth and effective delivery of services. This is evidenced by the huge increase in computerization efforts both by private and government institutions.”

Currently, IT certification efforts are strongly supported by the government, particularly by the Commission on Information and Communications Technology or CICT, led by Chairman Virgilio Peña. The National Computer Center and the Systems Technology Institute are the first two ICDL accredited testing centers in the country today.
