CICC Scholarship in Information Technology Fiscal Year 2003 - Part I

CICC
The Center of the International Cooperation for Computerization (CICC) was founded on June 1, 1983, under the cooperation of Japanese Government agency (Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry) and enterprises related to computerization. The purpose of the CICC foundation is to implement cooperation activities for promoting computerization in developing countries.
To upgrade the skill level of information technology for the computer personnel in developing countries, CICC has offered computer training courses as of one of its core activities since its establishment.

Training Courses
• C1: Intranet Application System Development Course (IAS)
This course is aimed towards system engineers (system analyst/system designer) who will be in charge of analyzing, designing and developing an intranet system. The platform will comprise an NT web server and a database server. This shows how to analyze business problems and break them into design components. It also shows how these components can be mapped into Express 5800 based solutions. Home pages will be created using dynamic HTML. It also shows how OLAP (OnLine Analytical Processing) can be accomplished in such systems.

• C2: Distribution, Manufacturing and Financial Management Course (DMF)
This course is an expanded version that covers a broader business scope and will be based on GLOVIA Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Software, one of the world’s leading ERP Software packages. Glovia will be fully expounded to simulate real life operation in the critical business areas of distribution, production, planning and financial control.

• C3: Multimedia System Development Course (MUL)
This course is designed to train Multimedia Producers/Directors who will be responsible for the development of multimedia contents in a Windows based Client/Server system environment. It introduces the concept, the technologies and the future trends of multimedia. It shows how to use the multimedia tools and how to develop multimedia contents.

• C4: Network/Internet System Development Course (NET)
This course is designed to train system engineers who will be in charge of organizational network systems. The course introduces the analysis, design, management of the internet, intranet and extranet systems including LAN/WAN and internetworking, the internet and know-how about network/Web technologies in order to propose proper network/Web systems.

General Qualifications of Applicants
Applicants should:
• be nominated by the Philippine Computer Society (PCS), the only recognized CICC counterpart organization in the country, and be recommended by their employer;
• have a university education or its equivalent education;
• have more than TOEFL 500 points or TOEIC 600 points for a sufficient command of English;
• have no training experiences in AOTS or CICC within the past two years;
• have no past experiences of CICC training course equal to this course;
• be in good health, both physically and mentally, to undergo the training. Pregnancy is regarded as a disqualifying condition for participation in the training;
• be non-military personnel;
• be employed in the same organization during the course period, and must be in a position where the results of the training can be put to practical use. Students are not eligible;
Condition of Technical Skills for IAS course
• Be familiar with the operation of Windows
• Have some knowledge of a computer language preferably Visual Basic (VB) and Visual Basic Programming System Application Edition (VBA).
• Have more than 3 years’ computer related work experience.

Platform to be used: UNIX Server, PC Server, PC Client

Condition of Technical Skills for DMF course
• Applicant should be the proper person to understand production/sales/finance management in the duty of the instruments factories and take the leadership there using the skill effectively.
• Have experience in using PC or Workstation.

Platform to be used: UNIX Server, PC Client

Condition of Technical Skills for MUL course
• Be familiar with the operation of Windows 98 or later, Word, Excel and Powerpoint.
• Have more than 3 years’ computer related work experience

Platform to be used:
• Hardware: Windows NT Server, Windows Client, Digital Video Camera, Digital Still Camera, Scanner, MD, CD-R/RW, DVD-RAM, Color Printer
• Software: Director, Premiere, Photoshop, Sound Forge XP, Infini-D, Bryce 4, FrontPage

Condition of Technical Skills for NET course
• Be familiar with the operation of Windows.
• Have more than 3 years’ computer related work experience.
• Have some knowledge of computer language or script.

Platform to be used: Linux Server, WindowsNT Server, Windows Client

Duration of training course
• September 10 to November 20, 2003
(Duration dates are subject to change based on certain conditions.)

Registration fee
o Upon submission of application: P500.00
o Additional P1,500.00 if you passed the CICC evaluation.

Allowances and Expenses
CICC bears the following expenses in accordance with its rules:
• roundtrip air ticket (economy fare)
• initial allowance
• transportation fare between Narita airport and place of accommodation
• accommodation fee
• living allowance covering food and daily expenses
• transportation expenses between accommodation and CICC
• fixed allowance on sending textbooks back after training period
• textbooks used in the course
• medical charges for trainees who may become ill after arrival in Japan

Regulations
Trainees must:
• observe and adhere to the rules of CICC strictly;
• observe and adhere to the course curriculum strictly;
• follow the flight schedule designated by CICC;
• neither shorten not extend the length of stay in Japan;
• not do any activities of job-hunting and work in Japan;
• not return to their home countries temporarily during the training period;
• not accompany with family members, relatives and friends on coming to Japan and during the training period;
• if trainees break the regulations, they must return to home countries at their own expenses. The total amount spent for the trainees must be returned to CICC, except in the case of accident or disease recognized by CICC.

Other Information
• Cancellation is never permitted except for such unforeseen reasons as accident, serious disease and so on. In case of disease, a doctor’s certificate is required. If unreasonable cancellation should occur, the responsible CICC counterpart organization may be subjected to restrictions on future selection.

• In case of cancellation, a notice should be made through the CICC counterpart organization and all the documents should be returned to CICC from applicants immediately.
